Connexions Direct and CXD-i

The Brief

To develop a new, innovative, engaging, accessible and secure website for Connexions Direct that acts as a 'guide to life' for 13-19 year olds. The aim was to provide useful information including facts, tips and advice they need to make all those important life choices.

Connexions Direct website

The objectives

  • Develop an innovative and secure 'guide to life' site for 13-19 year olds
  • Ensure that the rich copy content was accessible, easy to read and engaging.
  • Encourage revisits with a host of interactive ideas including games.
  • Provide an eye-catching visual design with strong use of photography and icons.
  • Ensure the information presented in a format that was easily accessible for everyone regardless of disability.

Our solution

Connexions Direct

To really understand the audience we were appealing to, we had to conduct extensive research into the thoughts, views and requirements of the age group. From these findings we were able to gain true insight into the mindsets and design the site accordingly. Making sure that content for the site was easy accessible dominated our thought process through every stage of the build. A mature and informative tone was chosen whilst the design itself was cleanly structured with a careful balance of photography, icons and key words. We applied a layered, logical structure to the content that allowed the user to easily scan through the content to find the information they required.

CXD-i

Having completed the Connexions Direct website Swamp was appointed to also create a new and innovative, interactive area to the site. This would be used to communicate key messages to young people. The focus of this area was to be fun, engaging and enjoyable whilst providing useful content.

The results

In May 2005 the site was awarded a Webby Award for the 'Best Government Site'. This international prestigious award was a great achievement for DCSF and Brahm Digital. The site was designed to give accessibility to everyone regardless of disability and such structure was greatly recognised when we were awarded the much sought after RNIB 'See Right' status and a Visionary Design Award.
